Nagoda Hospital is a large government-funded hospital with several different specialist units. There are 127 doctors and 650 nursing staff and it is open until midnight for all patients. The hospital originally opened around a century ago as a Military Army Base hospital. The hospital is in the small town of Nagoda. The nearest main town is Kalutara which is about 20 minutes away by bus.

 

Your predominant role will be to shadow the local doctors, ask them questions and observe their daily work in various departments. Building a good relationship with the local staff is crucial for you to get the most out of your placement. Once they see you are eager and enthusiastic, they will be even more forthcoming in teaching you and might perhaps even give you the chance to do something under their supervision.
