Your hosts are Belgian couple Leo and Myrjam who have lived in Sri Lanka for twenty years. Together, they designed and built the Lodge in the early 90s. It opened in 1996 as Ging Oya Lodge, a fully-fledged three star hotel. In 2000 its doors were closed, partly due to political unrest in the country and partly so Leo and Myrjam could enjoy the last few years of having their children living at home. The former hotel became the family home.
In 2009 they decided to re-open the doors on a smaller, more intimate scale with the aim of providing guests with a fine balance between luxury, nature and privacy.
Leo can often be found leading kayak tours on the river, photographing the local wildlife or making stunning wooden furniture in his workshop. You will find his work distributed throughout the Lodge. Myrjam is a sculptor who creates large statues from locally sourced clay. Take a walk through the sprawling grounds and discover her works hidden amongst the foliage of the trees.
They are hippies at heart and believe in preserving nature and beauty. They are proud of what they have created and enjoy sharing it with you.
